Stay Cool as a Cucumber!

Here are some ways to beat the heat and Keep Cool!


  • Choose cotton.
    Linens made of lightweight cotton are
    breathable and excellent for promoting ventilation and airflow in the bedroom.
  • Feel the freezer burn.
    Try putting sheets in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes before bed. It is recommended to place them in a plastic bag first. This probably won’t keep you cool all night, but it will provide brief relief from heat and humidity.
  • Get cold comfort.
    Here is a tip you can you utilize during all four-seasons. In cold or cooler weather, fill a hot water bottle with boiling water for toasty toes without having to turn up the thermostat. During hot and warmer weather, fill the hot water bottle with water and put it in the freezer to create a bed-friendly ice pack.
  • Be creative with fans.
    Here are some tips to have your fans help keep you cooler not blow hot air around. Point box fans out the windows so they push hot air out and adjust ceiling fan settings so the blades run counter-clockwise, this way the hot air will be pulling up and out instead of circulating it around the room.
  • Sleep like an Egyptian.
    The so-called
    “Egyptian method” involves dampening a sheet or towel in cool water and using it as a blanket. It is recommended to lay the damp sheets on top of a dry towel to keep the mattress dry.
  • Get loose.
    Pick a loose, soft cotton shirt and shorts or underwear for summertime PJ’s. Some people believe sleeping nude helps keep them cool, while others claim going all natural means sweat stays on the body instead of being absorbed by fabric. This really depends on your personal preference.
  • Go old-school.
    Did you know refrigerators used to be iceboxes that contained actual blocks of ice? Make a DIY air conditioner by putting a shallow pan (a roasting pan works great) or a bowl full of ice in front of a fan. The breeze will pick up cold water from the surface of the ice as it melts, creating a cooling mist.
