Nocturnal Enuresis (the medical name for bedwetting):
Nocturnal enuresis is urination that happens at night during sleep after the age when a child should be able to control his or her bladder.
Did you know bedwetting often runs in families?
Children who wet the bed usually have a parent that wet also as a child. If one parent wet the bed as a child there is a 40% chance of the child doing the same and a 75% chance for the child to wet the bed if both parents wet as a child.
Children will usually grow out of wetting the bed on their own. If your child has not grown out of wetting yet, it can be making them uncomfortable and self-conscious. It is very important to show support and positive reinforcement during this process.
Make sure your child knows that bedwetting is a normal part of growing up, and other family members have struggled with the same issue when they were young.
